Devastation of Hurricane Katrina
The question remains the same in the United States. Has the State and people of New Orleans partially recovered from the terrible natural disaster? A little over four years ago the people of New Orleans suffered one of the worst Hurricane's in U.S. history, over 1,800 people were killed and 5,698 were injured. Over 15 million people were affected by Katrina whether it was due to the economy, evacuations, gas prices, or even drinking water (hurricanekatrinarelief.com), this set the state into a spiral of turmoil.
Four years after this event it still remains a battleground for recovery, New Orleans is currently tied with Washington for highest homeless rates in the county. School in New Orleans remain over-crowded and damaged. Politicians promise resolve for the lack of home security and crime but, there has been little help. There has been so many concerns about the general well being of the state that it almost seems like an un-fixable problem.
My personal perception about the matter is the following: In these tragic times of emergency, even after the waters have sunk, we, as citizens of America must find some type of collective solution to the epidemic of misfortune in New Orleans. Justifiably understood that the road to recovery couldn't have been placed at a more worse time than now, with the country fighting the recession. This still does not mitigate that we must tackle the severe problems at hand.
